The race that stops the nation put a pause on auctions over the long weekend, but it didn’t prevent buyers from inspecting our open homes in strong numbers.

We were surprised to see over 20 groups, even 30 groups attend some of our new listings on Saturday, suggesting that there are still plenty of buyers out and about and evidently not as much stock available now as before Super Saturday.

This week and next week will see the last of the 2023 stock hit the market for auctions on the 2nd and 9th of December.

After that, aside from a couple of twilight auctions and a handful of off market transactions, the Stonnington property market effectively shuts down from mid-December until Australia Day, when the first February auction campaigns commence.

We are in the final furlong of the 2023 market. The final dash to the line for those who are motivated to transact this year.

There are still many people who have recently bought and need to sell; people who have recently sold and need to buy; people who have recently missed out at auction and desperately want to buy.

With the market having been on the rebound all year, and predictions of an even stronger market in 2024, there is some urgency in the air that was missing just 12 months ago.

And when you have motivation + urgency, you tend to see some very competitive results, especially for the A-grade listings.

We expect to see some strong auctions over the coming weeks to close out what has been a very positive year for the Stonnington market.

Hopefully you can cross the finish line with a win… although it’s unlikely to be Without a Fight.
